AK-12 (Russian: АК-12, meaning Kalashnikov 2012 Automatic Rifle; formerly known as AK-400) is a modernized assault rifle series developed by Kalashnikov Concern in response to feedback from the Russian military on the common shortcomings of previous AK models. The design has been continually refined since its public reveal in 2010. It represents the latest generation in the AK rifle family and is intended for widespread adoption across all units of the Russian armed forces.
Its goal is to eventually replace earlier generations of Kalashnikov assault rifles currently in service with the Russian military and other government forces.
